You can pick out exactly where the sound is coming from because you only need two microphones to accurately reproduce audio in any position. It's just about producing audio that your brain interprets as coming from somewhere else, which as I said is perfectly possible with a stereo pair. Of course it's an "illusion", but that doesn't mean you can't produce the exact same audio you would hear in a Dolby Atmos sound system through "illusion". You don't have this phenomenon anywhere near as much with headphones. With speakers you have to deal with the fact that the audio already sounds like it's coming from a specific place. ![]() There's a difference between headphones and speakers, though. ![]()
